Can I be/have a caregiver for a medical marijuana patient in Texas?

Yes, medical marijuana patients in Texas may have a caregiver. Caregivers must be entered into the Compassionate Use Registry of Texas (CURT) by the patient's certifying physician.

Caregiver Requirements:

  • At least 18 years of age.

  • Patients must be permanent Texas residents.

  • Caregivers and parents/legal guardians will be required to show proof of identification to the dispensing organization.

Here's how the caregiver process works:

  1. Provide full name and last 5 digits of social security number to the physician.

  2. The physician will enter this information alongside the patient’s while registering them with CURT.

  3. The caregiver must show proof of ID as well as the patient’s last name, date of birth, and last 5 digits of their social security number when purchasing medicine at the dispensary.
