How often do I need to renew my Maryland Medical Marijuana Card?

Maryland medical marijuana certificates are valid for one year and can be renewed online. Although the state card is valid for six years, the state requires patients to be certified annually.

A renewal consultation with Leafwell costs $99, and you'll only be charged if approved. Plus, we'll send you a reminder email one month before your certification expires to make sure you avoid a lapse in coverage.

Here's a summary  of the renewal process:

  1. Sign in to Leafwell, or if you’re new to Leafwell, register as a renewal patient here.
  2. Speak to a Maryland-licensed provider online and get approved.
  3. The Leafwell provider will submit your renewal certification to the Maryland Cannabis Administration (MCA).
    1. If your state card is still valid, nothing further is required.
    2. If your state card is expiring or has expired, you will need to submit a renewal application online.
      1. Log into your existing MCA account and open a Renewal Form. Instructions can be found here.
      2. Follow the prompts and pay the $25 state fee.
      3. Receive a 90-day temporary card via email that can be used to purchase medicine until your physical card arrives in the mail.
