How often do I need to renew my Montana Medical Marijuana Card?

Montana medical marijuana certificates are valid for one year and can be renewed online. We recommend renewing 60 days before your expiration date to avoid a lapse in coverage.

A renewal consultation with Leafwell costs $129 and you'll only be charged if approved.

Here's a summary of the renewal process:

  1. Sign in to your Leafwell account or register as a renewal patient here.

  2. Speak to a Montana-licensed physician online, get approved, and download your physician statement.

  3. Renew your card through the TransAction Portal (TAP) within 60 days. Under the ‘Cannabis Control’ section, select ‘Apply for or Manage a Medical Marijuana Card’ and then ‘Renew an Existing Card.’

  4. Complete the renewal application and pay the $20 state application fee.

  5. Download and print your temporary card to use immediately. Your new physical card will arrive in the mail once your application is approved.
