How often do I need to renew my Montana Medical Marijuana Card?

Montana medical marijuana certificates are valid for one year and can be renewed online.

A renewal consultation with Leafwell costs $129, and you'll only be charged if approved. Plus, when you renew with Leafwell, we'll send you a reminder one month before your certification expires to make sure you have plenty of time to complete your renewal application with the state.

Here's a summary of the renewal process:

  1. Sign in to Leafwell, or if you’re new to Leafwell, register as a renewal patient here.
  2. Speak to a Montana-licensed physician online, get approved, and download your renewal certificate.
  3. Renew your card through the TransAction Portal (TAP). Under the ‘Cannabis Control’ section, select ‘Apply for or Manage a Medical Marijuana Card’ and then ‘Renew an Existing Card.’
  4. Complete the renewal application and pay the $20 state fee.
  5. Download and print your temporary card to use immediately. Your new physical card will arrive in the mail once your application is approved.
