How often do I need to renew my New Jersey Medical Marijuana Card?

New Jersey patients have separate expiration dates for their doctor's certification and state-issued medical marijuana card. The doctor's certification is valid for one year and must be renewed annually, while the state card is valid for two years and is renewed every other year. We recommend renewing 60 days before your certification expires to avoid a lapse in coverage.

A renewal consultation with Leafwell costs $99 and you'll only be charged if approved.

Here's a summary of the renewal process:

  1. Sign in to your Leafwell account or register as a renewal patient here.

  2. Speak to a New Jersey-licensed physician online and get approved.

  3. If your state card is still valid, your physician will submit your renewal certification to the state using your Registry ID number, and nothing further is required.

  4. If your state card is expiring or has expired, you will need to submit a renewal application online.

    1. Go to the New Jersey government website, log in, and select “ID Card Renewal” to start the renewal application.

    2. Complete and submit your renewal application. You can check the status by logging into your portal account.

    3. Once your application is approved, you will receive your digital medical card within 48 hours.
